LOVE LIFE HATE PALM OIL Gala Dinner
WEDNESDAY 1ST JULY, 7PM, MILLENIUM HOTEL, MAYFAIR

Imagine a warm summer's evening, lanterns strung from the trees, blankets on the ground, and a total feast of local/home grown seasonal foods and juices to share.

A swing band plays, we dance in the moonlight, we celebrate what's great about humanity and our totally beautiful world.

Why might we do this? PALM OIL

Across the planet rainforests are being ripped up - destroying indiginous communities, their local biodiversity and habitats. Just so we can have cheap vegetable oil in our processed foods and other household products.

Palm Oil threatens the existence of the orangutan and us! For without the rainforests to absorb CO2, and with land wasted that could be used to grow food, we are.....as you may be aware......doomed!

Come and join us with such love and joy in your heart - that we send a clear message to the agri investment Palm Oil industry:

BLOODY WELL STOP IT! NOW!

Climate Rush is sorry to swear but this is as serious as it gets. But it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing!

So come and party - special prize for the best orangutan costume.

Palm Oil Biofuels: Very Bad News Indeed!

WHY IS PALM OIL BAD?

* 90% of the world’s PALM OIL comes from Indonesia and Malaysia, but it is now being grown widely in South America too.
* The UK is the second largest importer of Indonesian PALM OIL in Europe.
* 43 of Britain’s 100 bestselling grocery brands contain PALM OIL, including Hovis, Kingsmill, Flora, Clover, Special K, KitKat, Diary Milk, Wrigleys, Persil, Comfort and Dove.
It’s everywhere!
* One of the biggest growth areas for PALM OIL is it’s use as a BIOFUEL: in the rush to replace diminishing fossil fuel, PALM OIL is being mixed into petrol.

WHAT’S WITH THE ORANGUTANS?

* 90% of the orangutan population has disappeared since the Suffragettes first appeared 100 years ago.
Orangutans now face extinction.
* 90% of wildlife vanishes when the forest is replaced by PALM OIL plantations, creating biological deserts.
* The PALM OIL industry is responsible for removing more than 10 million hectares of tropical rainforest.
* Global corporations make huge profits whilst indigineous peoples are illegally forced from the land.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT CLIMATE?

* Peat land is drained and burned to create PALM OIL plantations, which releases massive amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere.
* Forest fires are deliberately started to clear land and contribute huge amounts of CO2 to the atmosphere.
* Tropical deforestation contributes up to 40% of global emissions from fossil fuel burning in any one year!
* Indonesia is the 3rd largest producer of CO2 in the world.
