Climate Rush ‘do a Banksy’ on HM Treasury

CLIMATE RUSH ‘DO A BANKSY’ ON HM TREASURY

Four artists, using black spray cans and stencils, painted George Osborne’s face with a direct quote: ‘A conservative treasury will drive green growth… by financing a green recovery’ [1], on to the white stone of the Treasury at 2.40am this morning.

Three women and one man arrived at the Treasury and jumped off their bikes. They took spray cans from their bags and graffitied an image of Chancellor George Osborne next to his own words: ‘A CONSERVATIVE TREASURY WILL DRIVE GREEN GROWTH… BY FINANCING A GREEN RECOVERY’. The stencil was approximately 2 x 0.8 metres and positioned under the stone by the entrance on which ‘HM Treasury’ is chiselled out. They then jumped back onto their bikes and went home, ready for work the next morning.

The action follows a meeting held last week by Climate Rush.[2] It was their first meeting since the General Election and the formation of the coalition government. Over 150 activists filled a hall in East London and heard speeches from Diane Atkinson, a historian of the Suffragettes, Caroline Lucas MP and members of Climate Rush.

One activist, studying for a PhD in Geology at a well-reputed university, said,

“The government has slashed our society. I understand that we are massively in debt. But if we’re to beat the deficit, then we’ll need jobs. The only way out of this crisis is to cut waste and create growth. We’re asking George Osborne, in the Britain he’s creating, will there be green jobs for our generation?

The coalition is currently deciding upon the format of the green investment bank. In Germany the existence of such a state-funded green investment bank creates approximately £33 million for every £1 million invested.”

Climate Rush has pledged to continue peaceful creative protest whilst the government cuts rather than encouraging growth.

And this acheived what exactly, run as an mp and let the public decide if your right or not! You wont because the public think your little games are a bit sad. More Wanksy than banksy.

  2. Steve says:

Well done!!! a public response that will remind him and us what he said in his expensive advertising campaign….

Wannabe MP’s and ministers say a lot of the right words when they want a seat. When they get their bums on the desired seats they suddenly find a carefully constructed anti “reality” is there given to them by the system that gives them a “get out of conscience free” card because of “unforeseen facts”.
In this age information is easy to find, so that excuse is a fraud. They did know, they do know, and they want to Con the electorate.
We won’t get fooled again if non destructive and non violent activism keeps their cynical “promises” visible, by any reasonable means necessary.
