Climate Rush on Retreat!

Rushers from London, Bristol and Hitchin gathered in Dorset last weekend for four days of glorious sunshine and campaign plotting. Between making plans to change the world and leading workshops on singing, bicycle repair and social media we swam in the sea and picked vegetables from the garden to create delicious vegetarian feasts. Our retreat was made especially wonderful because we were a mixture of campaigners, including people who have been involved in Climate Rush since the first rush on Parliament as well as our newest members who have just started coming along to meeting in the past few weeks.

We spoke about the campaigns we’ve been so busy working on and realised that since May last year we’ve organised over fifty actions as part of our campaigns for cleaner air, for better railways, in protest against airport expansion, and to bring attention to the toxic romance between our beloved Waitrose and the not so beloved Shell. We’ve designed and made over 15 new flyers as well as a fab direct action worksheet, hundreds of sashes and lots of banners too. We’ve worked with other organisations including People and Planet, Londoners on Bikes, Bike Alive, This is Ecocide and the London Bike Swarm. We want to extend a big thank you to everyone who wasn’t able to make it to our retreat but has campaigned alongside us from tweeting about our actions, coming along to our events, being a part of our creative days or by supporting us in too many other ways to list!

During the weekend we made plans for pushing forward our campaigns for cleaner air, safer and climate friendly means of transport and our Waitrose campaign. We have really exciting plans for the next few months and we’d love you to come and help us develop them into stunning actions.

We can’t wait to go on a retreat again next year but if you can’t wait a whole year you can get a couple of hours of Climate Rush retreat every week by coming along to one of our friendly weekly meetings on Thursday evenings in Carnaby Street at 7pm.
